Police detained six UMNO Youth leaders over their connection to a protest outside DAP headquarters last Thursday.
The UMNO Youth leaders, among them the heads of the Wilayah Persekutuan, Cheras and Bandar Tun Razak divisions, were held when they reported themselves at the Wangsa Maju police station yesterday at 2pm.
All six were released several hours later. Police are investigating their case as one of criminal intimidation, The Star Online reports.
On Thursday, a group of UMNO Youth members staged a protest in front of DAP national headquarters in Jalan Yew. Several altercations broke out between the protesters and police officers barricading the entrance of the building, when they tried to break through the cordon.
The group was eventually allowed to enter the compound and handed a protest memorandum to a DAP representative.
Wilayah Persekutuan UMNO YOuth chief Mohd Razlan Mohd Rafii said they were protesting to urge central DAP leadership to take disciplinary action against its Penang state assemblyman RSN Nayer, who last week provoked UMNO outrage when he declared “UMNO celaka” (“damn UMNO”) during a session of the Penang state assembly.
