It was a rollercoaster ride of emotions for Jeryl Lee Pei Ling’s parents.
First, they were ecstatic when she made it to the grand final of the ‘Sing! China’ competition. Then, their mood quickly took a nosedive after they lost a lot of money during their flight back to Kuala Lumpur.
According to a report by The Star Online, Ivy Liew, 65, claimed that around 1,800 Yuan (RM1,100) and RM700 went missing from her handbag on Sunday.
She told the news portal that she had kept her handbag under her seat as instructed by the cabin crew.
Ivy had only realised that the money was missing after she touched down at the Penang International Airport at around 6am.
“I opened my handbag to check on my expenses in Beijing and was shocked to find only RM30 in my purse,” she was quoted as saying.
However, Jeryl’s purse — which reportedly had 200 Yuan (RM125) in it — kept in the handbag was left untouched.
“Jeryl’s purse was also kept in my handbag but her money was not stolen,” she was further quoted as saying.
She told the news portal that the incident could have happened while she was asleep.
She also added that she had informed the cabin crew but she did not intend to make a police report.
Ivy and her husband, Lee Luan Sung, flew back to Kuala Lumpur after accompanying 16-year-old Jeryl at the ‘Sing! China‘ grand finale which took place at Beijing’s Bird’s Nest Stadium on Friday.
