Singaporean car crashes on railway tracks, disrupts train services

A Singapore-registered car heading back to the island from Johor Baru went out of control and landed on its side on the railway tracks on the Causeway early Tuesday morning.

According to The New Straits Times, the car was reportedly spotted leaning on the waterpipes on the Malaysian side of the Causeway by KTM Berhad officials at about 5am.

The driver of the vehicle was reportedly trapped in the car as the door was pinned to the ground. With the help of passers-by, the driver managed to escape the vehicle with only minor injuries.

Singapore’s The Straits Times reported that the 4.40am accident caused train services between Malaysia and Singapore to be disrupted for about an hour.

KTM Berhad told the daily that the tracks were cleared of all obstructions by 6.30am, but two train services had to be canceled.

Meanwhile, Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) told The Straits Times: “The 39-year-old male Singaporean driver is currently assisting the Malaysian authorities in their investigation.”
