Sick of being grounded by her father for two days, a teenager has decided to burn her house down on Thursday.
According to The New Straits Times, the teenager’s 44-year-old father received a call from his neighbours in the afternoon, saying that his house at Taman Desa Setapak was on fire.
When he rushed home, the man reportedly found his living room on fire.
Wangsa Maju police chief Superintendent Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif told the daily that the police, who were also called to the scene, found out later that the man’s 16-year-old daughter had set fire to the living room curtains.
“The teenager admitted that she started the fire to get her father’s attention.
“Her father had grounded her, locking her inside the home for the last two days,” Mohammad Roy was quoted as saying.
According to Mohammad Roy, the father had no choice but to lock her daughter at home because she had been leaving the house without permission and sometimes, failed to return home.
“He felt that the only suitable option was to bar her from leaving the house,” he told the NST.
