Fugitive ‘sex blogger’ Alvin Tan had apparently spoken of seeking asylum in the United States before jumping bail, his ex-girlfriend Vivian Lee revealed.
In a Facebook message to The Star Online, Lee said she was less than surprised to know that he was in the US to seek protection from – as Tan puts it – ‘the tyranny of Umno’.

She told the news portal that while he had mentioned the plan before, he never went into details.
Lee, 25, was quoted as saying that she was relieved to know that Tan was safe and that he is now able to ‘pursue his dreams and resume in conquests in the US without any baggage’.
“I do not feel bitter and I do not blame him for anything. I wish him well and all the best. It would be a while, perhaps never again, that the two of us will meet,” Lee was quoted as saying.
According to Lee, Tan never replied her many text messages and emails and had only known his whereabouts from the news.
She told the daily that she would never have run away as the 26-year-old Tan did after the duo were charged under the Sedition Act for their offensive Ramadan ‘greeting’ posted on Facebook last year.
The former lovers were also charged for their pornographic postings on the now inactive ‘sex blog’ which had given rise to their infamy.
“I was brought up by my parents to face and deal with any issue in front of us, and running away whenever there’s trouble isn’t a wise approach,” she told The Star Online.
