A seven-year old girl drowned on Saturday after falling into a a swimming pool at the official residence of Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim during a Chinese New Year event.
The deceased has been identified as Amanda Dany Shah, and is believed to have been alone without the supervision of her parents when the 4.30pm incident took place.
Shah Alam district police chief ACP Azisman Alias told Bernama that the girl’s parents were the caterers for the Chinese New Year event held there that day.
Amanda’s parents were apparently preoccupied with food preparation and did not notice their daughter had left their side.
“We understand that the victim had left her parents and walked off alone to the swimming pool at the top floor of the building. We do not yet have information whether she was with others or not at the time,” said Azisman.
Paramedics tried to save Amanda but she perished on the way to the Klang Hospital at about 7pm.
Azisman has classified the case as sudden death.
