Police have so far arrested eight people in connection with a brutal assault and robbery in a condominium lift on Oct 17.
Bernama reports that the suspects — aged between 16 and 33 — were held yesterday. One of them had four previous criminal cases to his name and was wanted in Selayang and Gombak.
“Police later detained four men and a girl at a hotel in Jalan Kampung Batu 5, Jalan Ipoh yesterday in a follow up to the case,” Wangsa Maju District Police chief, Supt Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif was quoted as saying in a press conference.
He added that another suspect, aged 25, was caught in Taman Setapak Indah, while two others — aged 26 and 33 — were arrested separately in Taman Sri Ukay and Ukay Perdana.
“All the suspects who were not studying and jobless, tested positive for syabu,” Supt Mohamad Roy told the media.
The brutal beating — where a 24-year old woman was viciously attacked by two men in the lift of her own apartment building — was caught on camera and had gone viral on social media this week.
The victim, identified in a report by The Star Online only as an accountant named Lim, was on her way back up to her apartment on the eighth floor of the building at 11.40pm on October 17 when two men followed her from the lobby into the lift, and pressed the button for the seventh floor.
As they reached the seventh floor, the men slammed Lim against the wall and knocked her down onto the floor.
The attack left Lim with two broken teeth and bruises all over her body.
