Seremban nun attacker caught on CCTV footage

The man responsible  for the attack on two elderly nuns outside Seremban’s Church of the Visitation last week may have been captured on surveillance footage.

Parish priest of the Church of the Visitation, Father John Gnanapiragasam said two of the church’s 13 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras causght a passing motorcyclist as he made a U-turn to ride into Gate 2 of the church compound, a minute after the two nuns had driven into the church themselves.

“The assailant, who was wearing a helmet and holding a lighted torch, ran after the two sisters who were dressed in everyday clothes,” he was quoted by The Star Online

“He was then seen running towards his motorcycle and taking off two minutes later.”

It was previously reported that the church’s CCTV cameras did not capture details of the incident, as the cameras closest to the location of the attack were malfunctioning.

“There were 13 CCTVs altogether. The one at the main entrance and another at the side were faulty,” The Malay Mail Online reports Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Osman Salleh.

Police later ruled out hate crime in the attack, saying that it was a plain robbery.

Last Wednesday, Sister Julianna Lim, 69, and Sister Marie Rose alias Theresa Teng were attacked outside the Church of the Visitation in an apparent robbery attempt. Sister Julianna slipped into a coma as a result of the assault, which she still has not emerged from.
