Sent to clinic for leg injury, boy pronounced dead on arrival

An 11-year-old disabled boy, who was being rushed to a clinic for a leg injury, reportedly died while on the way there.

According to The New Straits Times, the incident happened at around 4.30pm when the mother of Mohd Roshamnudin Abdullah found him lying on the toilet floor at their home in Endau, Johor.

Johor Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat told the daily that the boy had reportedly gone to the toilet by himself.

The mother sensed something was wrong when he failed to come out.

“The victim’s mother noticed her son going in but only suspected something was amiss after noticing he was in there for too long,” Kamarul was quoted as saying.

When the mother went into the toilet to check on him, she found Mohd Roshamnudin lying on the floor with one of his legs pinned under a large water container.

“The victim’s mother claimed her son was still conscious and alive when she picked him up and she quickly called her husband. They rushed him to the Endau health clinic,” he told the daily.

However, on the way to the clinic, the boy reportedly lost consciousness and was declared dead on arrival.

“Initial investigation revealed that the health clinic’s medical assistant found scars all over the victim’s body, which resembled either scar marks from eczema or from cigarette burns,” Kamarul was further quoted as saying.

The boy’s remains were reportedly sent to the Sultan Ismail Hospital for a post mortem.

Kamarul told the NST that the police have detained the boy’s parents for questioning.

“The case is still being investigated pending a complete post mortem report to determine the cause of death,” Kamarul was quoted as saying.
