A 59-year-old man — believed to be the mastermind of a notorious gang in Selangor and KL — was shot dead by police yesterday.
His counterpart, 32, was hit in the hip during the 1.50pm shootout at a car park in Taman Melawati, The Star Online’s M. Kumar reports.
Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdullah was quoted by the daily as saying that the two men were seen in a vehicle bearing a fake registration plate. Police then used their cars and blocked the suspect’s car but the duo attempted to crash into the barrier.
“Then, one of my men got out to get closer. That was when one of the two opened fire,” he was quoted as saying.
Both men are believed to be part of the violent Mamak Gang that has terrorised Selangor with multiple robberies.
SAC Mohd Adnan had also revealed that the dead suspect possessed a record of 24 criminal cases, among them robberies and car break-ins.
The younger suspect was reportedly sent to Ampang Hospital while one policeman suffered minor injuries to his hands.
According to the report, police also found a revolver, seven machetes, an axe, a knife, a pair of bolt cutters, fake licence plates, ski masks, gloves and police vests inside the car.
