The armed gang who abducted two women from the Singamata Reef Resort near Semporna last week have demanded a ransom of 500 million Filipino pesos, or RM36.4 million, for the Chinese tourist they have kidnapped. reported The Star.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Malaysia has sent a team to discuss this latest development with a “middle person” to conduct the hostage negotations.
“We have received a note that the kidnappers have asked for 500mil pesos or RM36.4mil as ransom.
“We have sent our team to discuss with the so-called reported middle person,” Zahid said, adding that there was no ransom demand for the Filipina.
On April 2, two Gao Hua Yuan, 29, of China and Marcy Dayawan, 40, of the Philippines, were abducted from the Singamata Reef Resort near Semporna by a group of armed men.
