Selangor MB: “We can’t stop water rationing yet”

Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the state government cannot yet stop water rationing to 6.7 million users because the water levels in dams servicing the affected areas are still low.

“For the time being, we cannot withdraw the water rationing directive. This is because it will result in worse consequences as the water level in the dams will drop faster,” he said replying to Datuk Mohd Shamsuddin Lias (BN-Sungai Burong) who urged the Selangor government to stop the water rationing plan.

According to Bernama, Khalid said the Selangor state government will hold talks with the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry on Monday to discuss a resolution to the water woes currently plaguing the people.

Shamsuddin meanwhile urged the MB to accept the offer from the Negeri Sembilan state government to sell Selangor treated water.

“For the short term we need an immediate solution and buying water is the right move. We cannot wait until the water level becomes very critical,” he told reporters in the assembly lobby.

Yesterday, the Negeri Sembilan government was reported to be ready to sell treated water to Selangor and Kuala Lumpur which are now facing supply shortage.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the Negeri Sembilan government was willing to sell 20 million gallons daily via the Ngoi-Ngoi water treatment plant in Pantai, Seremban.
