Selangor MB: Water rationing to continue until further notice

Water rationing exercises imposed on millions of people in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor will continue until further notice, said Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

“Until the water level in most dams surpass 65% to 70%, the state will not stop water rationing,” he said at a press conference at the state administrative office today.

This indicates that Phase Three of the water rationing exercise, scheduled to run until Marrch 31, in which residents in affected areas are to receive two days of water followed by two days without, will likely be extended.

The Sungai Selangor Dam, which supplies 60% of the water to the greater Kuala Lumpur area, has been hovering slightly below critical levels, set at 40%, the lowest it has been in the past 10 years.

Khalid said he was informed by the Meteorological Department that heavy rain is forecast in early April.
