Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) will attempt one more time to be granted an audience witth Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor to explain its stand on the Selangor Menteri Besar issue.
This time around, the party will submit a handwritten letter signed by president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, an internal PKR source told Astro Awani.
PKR’s first attempt to secure a royal audience over the matter was rebuffed by the palace, on the grounds that the request made was inappropriate, as it was signed by PKR and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and not Wan Azizah, who was to meet the Sultan.
The source intimated that the new request letter would be submitted to the royal palace soon.
“Today, PKR will write again to the palace. The same letter but this time Dr Wan Azizah will sign it,” the source revealed.
Current Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim was expelled from PKR on Saturday for defying the party’s official endorsement of president Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as his replacement for the Menteri Besar post and for refusing to step down.
On Monday, Khalid received the consent of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to continue in his capacity as Menteri Besar for the immediate future, as long as he can command majority support from the Selangor state assembly.
PAS, the only holdout partner in the PR coalition on the Menteri Besar issue, asked de facto PR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to put forth an alternate candidate for MB, other than Anwar’s wife Wan Azizah. PAS’s top leaders are scheduled to meet on August 17 to decide on the party’s official stand on who it endorses for the post.
