Selangor government to decide on stopping water rationing tomorrow

The Selangor state government will be making a decision tomorrow on whether or not to discontinue the water rationing exercise affecting 6.7 million people in the Klang Valley, Putrajaya and Selangor since March.

Selangor Youth and Sports, Infrastructure and Public Amenities Permanent Committee chairman Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi said that a decision will only be made after further discussions between Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim and the members of the water-related committee tomorrow.

“At the moment, we are still proceeding with the rationing plan but any change to end or reduce the amount of rationing will be announced later.

“Nonetheless, we cannot stop suddenly but maybe in stages,” fz.com reports hims as saying.

Ahmad also commented on the state’s efforts to pump raw water from the Hang Tuah pond in Bestari Jaya to be transferred into the Sungai Selangor dam, saying the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) and the Selangor Health Department had confirmed that the pond water was free from leptospirosis and was in compliance with chemical parameters for water purposed for treatment.

“From tomorrow, five more pumps will be added to pump water from the Hang Tuah pond into Sungai Selangor, making a total of seven pumps in operation.

“As at today, the Sungai Selangor Dam has a capacity of 92.19 million cubic metres or 40.08% compared to last week at 89.46 million cubic metres (38.9%), a rise of 1.18%,” he said.
