See an abandoned vehicle? Report it to DBKL via WhatsApp

See that no-good abandoned vehicle taking up a precious parking spot in your housing area? Well if you live in the city, here’s a piece of good news.

The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) says has made itself available to all information on junk vehicles — all you have to do is let them know details through WhatsApp.

The number is 019-2120031.

City Hall Socio Economic Development executive director Datuk Mohd Saufi Muhamad said in a report by The Malaysian Insider’s Noel Achariam, that once the information is sent, DBKL would do the rest.

“The public should provide details of the location and area of the abandoned vehicles on WhatsApp and we will take the appropriate action,” he was quoted as saying.

According to him, close to 2,200 complaints were sent to the City Hall from 2013 until the end of last year; 1,136 cars and motorcycles were towed as a result.

“Each time a complaint is lodged, our officers will visit the site and stick a notice on the vehicle. If the owner fails to claim the vehicle within four days, then we will tow it away,” he told TMI.

“If the owner wants to claim the vehicle, they will have to pay a towing fee of RM100 and storage fee of RM10 per day,” he was quoted further.

Should no one claim these vehicles within a month, they would be disposed.

“We will take note of the chassis number and try to locate the owner through the Road Transport Department. We will also check with the police to see if the vehicle was used for criminal activities before disposing of it.”

The City Hall is also contactable at its toll-free number, 1-800-88-3255 or its 24-hour command centre at 03-4024 4424.
