Security guard jailed for assaulting his own mother

A security guard was given a two-month jail term for assaulting his own mother, according to a report by The New Straits Times.

The sentece was meted out by Magistrate Adira Adnan at the Magistrates Court in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

V. Maanikkkam, 25, pleaded guilty to committing the offence at Block A of the No 5 Flat Sri Sawarak in Kuala Lumpur at around 1am on August 2.

According to court papers cited by the daily, Maanikkam was drunk when he punched his mother, 63-year-old M. Suparma, in the mouth and head. He also reportedly pulled her hair.

During mitigation, the accused pleaded for leniency, saying that he only earned RM1,200 as a security guard and that he regretted his action.

He also said that he had a fight with his brother and Suparma was accidentally beaten when she was trying to stop the fight.

Maanikkam was ordered to serve his jail sentence on the day of his arrest, which was on August 2.
