Search for MH370: M’sia to talk to China about getting more ships

The search for missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370 is still on, with the Malaysian government in talks with China for more ships to join the search mission.

At the moment only four ships are involved in finding the jetliner, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

“We will seek the assistance of China to despatch more assets to find the missing plane. As an international team, we need the cooperation of all countries especially the expertise in the search for MH370, believed to be in the ocean at a depth of 6,000 metres,” Bernama quoted him as saying.

These talks — expected to be had along with the Australian government — will take place around the first anniversary of the March 8 incident last year.

The government had on Jan 29 declared that the aircraft’s disappearance was an ‘accident’ and that all 239 crew and passengers are presumed dead.
The Boeing 777 had taken off from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) just after midnight en route to Beijing but lost contact with air traffic control soon after.
