School canteen ordered to close after food poisoning cases

A primary school canteen in Ipoh was forced to shut down for two weeks after 29 of its students came down with food poisoning on Monday, reported The New Straits Times.

The students, aged between 11 and 12, came down with the illness after consuming curry at the school canteen in the 1pm incident. They were later sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital and Greentown health clinic for treatment.

“Among the symptoms suffered by the pupils included stomach ache, dizzy spells and vomiting,” said State Health director Datuk Dr Juita Ghazalie, who added that the district health department is currently investigating the case.

“We have taken several food samples from the canteen, including the curry,” she said.
