A Sibu, Sarawak man has been arrested for allegedly selling dog meat at his market stall, situated along a row of wooden houses. Police officer Saiful Bahari Abdullah also said that the Jalan Rambutan stall operated as a slaughterhouse. Yikes.
The Tuesday afternoon raid revealed a substantial amount of dog meat, and the proprietor admitted to illegally running the business for over 30 years, to a regular clientele, who regularly, unknowingly partook canine consumption.
Dog-related matters have come to a head in Sarawak after a series of rabies outbreaks killed two youngsters in the district. Two more cases have been reported since, with one of the victims in critical condition. Rabies, once manifested, is a fatal disease.
The crime of selling animal meat carries with it a potential sentence of 5-years imprisonment.
No word on how any of the “regulars” are feeling this morning after news broke.
