A salesman who was initially given a 12-year jail term for raping an underaged girl he befriended on Facebook, saw his sentence reduced to eight years, according to a report by The Star Online.
The High Court, however, upheld the whipping sentence against 23-year-old Khoo Kean Giap, and ordered the jail term to run from Monday.
“The Court finds that the conviction is safe. However, I reduce the jail sentence to eight years from 12 years and maintain the two whippings handed down against you,” Justice Azman Abdullah was quoted as saying.
Khoo was charged for raping the 13-year-old girl, whom he befriended on the social media site two months before, at his sister’s house in Cheras in October 2012.
