Runaway crane smashes into 13 cars in Seremban

Commuters driving down Seremban’s Jalan Sungai Ujong yesterday evening were in for the shock of their lives as they saw a masive construction crane hurtling at them at top speed, eventually crashing into no less than 13 vehicles.

During the 6.45pm incident, the crane, which was on  its way from Sendayan to Seremban, reportedly lost control on the downslope of a flyover near Taman Bukit Kepayang before ramming into traffic.

Seremban district police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Zaki Harun told Harian Metro‘s Raja Noraina Raja Rahim the incident occired during a traffic jam.

“Police were informed of the incident at 6.58pm, after which officers were dispatched to the scene to investigate the crash and control traffic. Initial investigations reveal that a crane did indeed lose control and impacted vehicles in front of it,” he said.

Despite the alarming collisions, there were miraculously no casualties.

“All victims were safe, and only vehicles were damaged in the incident,” said ACP Muhamad Zaki.

“The accident caused traffic congestion for about an hour, but conditions returned to normal after all affected vehicles were cleared from the road.”

He added that PDRM officers found no trace of illegal substances in the crane driver’s urine when tested, but are still analysing his blood sample for traces of alcohol or drugs.
