The Royal Malaysian Navy believes that several of its military personnel are involved with the Middle Eastern Islamist terror organisation Islamic State (ISIS) – a belief based on its searches on social media networks.
RMN chief Abdul Aziz Jaafar said the Navy was now cooperating with the police to continue their thorough investigations into the matter.
“We have called them for interrogations and have requested the police assistance to carry out thorough investigations. We have also been informed by the police that their investigations so far found that some of RMN officers have connections with the militant group.
“In this matter, we are prepared to allow our men to be investigated as we want the IS militant activities to be eradicated in total,” he said, as quoted by Astro Awani.
Abdul Aziz stated the obvious when he added that the insertion of ISIS members and sympathisers into the country’s military was a serious threat to national security.
This follows the PDRM’s most recent terror bust on Sunday, when 12 Malaysians were arrested on suspicion of planning to launch attacks on multiple targets in the Klang Valley. Also confiscated in the course of those arrests were illicit explosives.
