Police shot dead a man believed to be a robber after he rammed his car into an on-duty policeman in an early morning incident yesterday.
The Star Online quotes Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zani Che Din as saying that police had acted in self-defence when the man, who was spotted with his girlfriend in a Proton Perdana acting suspiciously around 5am, drove his vehicle towards the policeman.
Prior to the incident, cops on crime prevention rounds had spotted the couple and two other people in another car at Jalan Kilang 51/A.
“While policemen were questioning the group, the driver of the Proton Perdana rammed his car into a policeman who was on a motorcycle and injuring him. In self-defence, the other policemen fired several shots at the driver,” ACP Mohd Zani was quoted as saying.
Mohd Nizam, Subuh, 33, died on the spot while his 19-year-old girlfriend, seated next to him, sustained injuries to her hand and thigh.
The two other men — who along with the deceased reportedly had 14 previous criminal records — were also arrested.
