A house robbery near the Sultan Abdul Aziz Golf Club in Shah Alam ended with one of the perpetrators shot dead by one of the police officers he attacked during the course of his attempted escape from the scene.
Selangor police chief Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said that the lance corporal who shot the alleged robber was in pursuit of the Indonesian man and three accomplices, suspected of robbing a house owned by a 24-year old pilot.
“We received a call from the victim, sent a team and directed all patrol cars nearby to the house,” Shukri said.
“However, en route, the officer and his partner, who were in one of the patrol cars, came across a Toyota Hilux parked by the side of the North Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE).”
When the officers approached, the car sped away.
“The lance corporal stayed on the highway while the other officer gave chase in the patrol car,” he said.
“The lance corporal decided to search the wooded area and saw four men, all foreigners, heading towards the side of the highway.”
The officer went after them.
After a short chase, one of the men turned around and slashed the officer’s left arm with a machete.
“The lance corporal had no choice but to defend himself. He fired three shots at the suspect who was killed immediately,” Shukri said.
The dead man, aged 34, had entered the country on Feb 14.
The other officer succeeded in stopping the Toyota Hilux at the Batu Tiga toll plaza and apprehended the passengers – two Malaysians aged 24 and 25. Of the two arrested, one had nine previous arrests, while the other had four.
Shukri said police recovered three handphones, a laptop and a piece of jewellery, amounting to RM10,000, believed to have been taken from the pilot’s house.
Police also brought in a 64-year-old taxi driver, who had parked his vehicle at a mosque near the house, for questioning.
