The Selangor state government has announced that the contentious Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (KIDEX) project has been cancelled, after the concessionaire failed to meet three of the state’s stipulated conditions by yesterday’s deadline.
Menteri Besar Azmin Ali said that the three conditions were preparing a free traffic impact assessment, social impact assessment, and an environmental impact assessment to inform users and local residents the clear benefits and possible negative effects of the proposed highway.
“Since not one of these conditions were met by Kidex by the end of the period given, the Selangor state government is announcing the cancellation of the project,” he said, as quoted by The Star Online.
“Kidex was also expected to reveal the toll rates throughout the concession period including any rise in any toll rates set in the concession.
“The concessionary party had to give official estimated rate of the toll collection and the rate of return to investment.
“They also had to reveal the full concession agreement to keep in line with Pakatan Rakyat’s policy of integrity, accountability and responsibility,” he added.
Azmin further said that the same criteria would be imposed on the approval process for other expressway projects in the state.
Azmin posted his official media statement on the matter to his personal Facebook account:
