Malaysia’s Road Transport Department (JPJ) has carried out a large-scale operation to weed out (ha!) drug abusing taxi drivers working to and from Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Three drivers were found in possession of cannabis and “an apparatus used to smoke the drug” (legit, a bong made out of a Mountain Dew bottle) was found under the seat.

The three men arrested, aged 27, 33 and 46, tested positive for both ganja and syabu. The men worked for different taxi companies, and have since been handed over to police for further investigation.
To the delight of recently arrived visitors no doubt, the men were high on drugs when they took passengers to and from KLIA prior to their respective arrests. They had been driving taxis each between 11 and 14 years.
In total, 150 airport and general taxis were inspected by JPJ officers, and 20 vehicles were issued summons for infractions ranging from heavy tinting to expired vehicle licenses.
Selangor JPJ’s director Nazli Md Taib told reporters that the operation was impromptu, and occurred between 9:30am (wake ‘n bake) and 3:00pm yesterday.
Now, if they were only able to check on these endemically broken meters every cabbie seems to have, we’ll be sorted.
