RMAF grounds all Aermacchi aircraft after crash

A week after one of its training jets crashed in Pahang, the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) has decided to ground its Aermacchi MB339CM pending results of an inquiry into the incident.

Other aircraft would be used for training purposes, RMAF chief General Tan Sri Roslan Saad said.

“We have eight Aermacchi MB339CM training aircraft. We will resume using them after the results of the investigation is known,” Bernama quoted him as saying.

On May 17, the aircraft carrying flight instructor Major Nazrul Hafiz Zaimi and trainee pilot Lieutenant Mohd Hakimi Khairi experienced ‘technical failure’ and crashed in Kampung Pandan Dalam in Pekan at 12.54pm.

Lieutenant Mohd Hakimi and Major Nazrul Hafiz managed to eject out of the aircraft before the crash.
