RM420K worth of drugs hidden in tomato purée cans, umbrellas

Tomato puree, umbrellas and closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras are, sometimes, not what it seems.

Last month, police uncovered three attempts to traffic drugs worth RM420,470 (2.213 kg) via parcels through express mail, Bernama reports. The items mentioned above were all used as part of the plan.

According to Kuala Lumpur International Airport director Datuk Chik Omar Chik Lim, these parcels had been sent to fake addresses.

“The three parcels were sent to Abdul Halim, Salim and Ahmad Sulaiman…the actual recipient would only take the package at the delivery company and get the ‘tracking’ numbers,” he reportedly said adding that a Nigerian was caught on March 6 at the Puchong Pos Laju office as he arrived to claim the package.

The parcel had been sent from Nigeria and contained six cans of ‘tomato puree’ — four of them filled with crystal white methamphetamine.

On another arrest in Cyberjaya, Chik Omar said:  “Investigations revealed the parcel, sent from Dongguan, China contained four closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, together with methamphetamine.”

The third case — the discovery of a parcel with 20 folding “umbrellas” that contained methamphetamine from Dalian, China addressed to a Kepong address — was in a courier company in  Subang on March 21.
