Some of us — especially those used to interstate travel on the North-South Expressway (NSE) — have our favourite Rest and Service Areas (R&R) that come with its own comforts for the weary traveller.
But PLUS (M) Bhd says that maintenance is costly; despite collecting RM2.4 million last year from shop owners at these rest zones, they’re still short of cash, the New Straits Times reports.
Deputy Works Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin told Parliament today that all that money was used for operation and maintenance but it wasn’t enough to cover the RM30 million needed to get all those R&Rs in working order.
“Meanwhile, PLUS collected RM2.3million in 2013,” she was quoted as saying.
Rosnah revealed this while answering a query on PLUS’s collection of three percent from sales made by food traders at these stops, adding that all R&R food sellers and PLUS had agreed to the charge with an agreement called the Perjanjian Pengendalian Gerai (Stall Management Agreement)
