RM100 million fund to be set up for women in need

The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry will propose setting up a special RM100 million fund to assist women in need.

Minister Rohani Abdul Karim said the fund is to help these women to improve their quality of life.

Speaking at the national Women’s Day celebration in Petaling Jaya, she said that despite the Government’s efforts, there are still many women who require federal financial aid and support.

Rohani said she would make an application for an allocation to be made for the fund at the next Cabinet meeting.

“Without any form of support and aid, it will be difficult for these struggling women who are unable to improve their standard of living, what more, survive through this modern age of high living costs,” she said, as quoted by The Malay Mail Online

She said the funds would be disbursed in the form of easy loans, grants, incentives and discounted repayment schemes.

“These funds will assist and provide more opportunities to women who are in need of financial support, especially those not eligible or unable to obtain welfare assistance or loans from financial institutions,” she said.

“This initiative will narrow the gender gap in various aspects and thus help the nation create a high-income society by 2020.”
