Revealed: Malaysian student’s insane shopping list

To be honest, if we were accidentally given A$4.6mil (RM13.8mil), there’s no way we could beat Christine Jiaxin Lee’s shopping spree.

On Sunday, The Sydney Morning Herald has published a long list of transactions made by the 21-year-old Malaysian student with the funds mistakenly transferred into her account by Westpac Bank.

In court documents obtained by the news site, Westpac highlighted 79 items and 50 store transactions they believe were made using the overdrafts given by the bank – and there’s no better word to describe her shopping list than insane!

In what was deemed ‘The Shopping Spree of The Century’ by the Sydney Morning Herald, Christine bought four Hermes handbags, 13 Hermes scarves, six Christian Dior handbags, Chanel cashmere pillows, two smartphones, three digital cameras and a Dyson vacuum cleaner.

In fact, the chemical engineering student also managed to get her hands on a Himalayan Birkin, one of the rarest Hermes Birkin bags in the world. Made using the skin of specially-bred Nile crocodiles, the Himalayan Birkin costs up to A$150,000 (RM450,000)!

According to the same news report, Christine would spend up to a whopping A$310,000 (RM930,000) in a day at up to five designer boutiques around Sydney. Based on the list of in-store transactions, she blew away A$716,640 (RM2.1mil) at Christian Dior, A$249,050 (RM747,150) at Chanel and A$48,055 (RM144,165) at Hermes between January and April 2015.

Christine was arrested at the Sydney Airport when she tried to board a flight back to Malaysia nearly two weeks ago and was charged with dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception and knowingly dealing with the proceeds of the crime.
