Retaining wall collapses in Cheras, killing Indonesian worker

A retaining wall collapsed in Cheras yesterday, instantly killing a foreign construction work.

Indonesian Saiful Samad, 39, had been cleaning a drain beneath the wall at Jalan Koop Cuepacs 5C when it fell on him, The Star Online‘s Natasha Joibi reports.

Kajang Fire and Rescue department Chief Mohd Safiq Mohd Noor was quoted as saying that a distress call came in at 3.20pm and in 30 minutes, a team of firemen had arrived at the scene.

They took up to 30 minutes to retrieve the body from beneath the rubble, Mohd Safiq said.

“We continued the search and rescue operation because we were informed that another person was working with the victim. We ended the operation after receiving confirmation that there was only one worker on duty during the incident,” he told the daily.

The body was sent to the Serdang Hospital for post-mortem.
