After reportedly not caring what others think, Neelofa’s company apologizes for Zouk event

Yesterday, we reported to you that actress and entrepreneur, Neelofa, was at the center of a maelstrom of criticism having launched her latest line of hijab fashions at Zouk KL Monday night.

A venue is best known for being the source of your first hangover, and last regret, Zouk KL premises are also used for brand launch parties during their off-hours.

At the time, Neelofa said that she didn’t have time for netizens’ criticisms, saying that she had decided this year to not pay attention to the opinions of the online masses, especially seeing as you can’t please everyone, all the time.

Looks like she’s broken her resolution: The managing director of NH Prime International Sdn Bhd, which owns Naelofar Hijab, has just issued an apology to their Instagram account, telling followers that next time, they will consider all cultural and religious sensitivities for future events.

They added that all food, and cutlery was provided for by outside caterers, that no alcohol was served, present nor visible, and that access to other rooms at the club was blocked.

Lofa’s selection of venue had many wondering just what Islamic headgear was doing at da club, despite the fact that there was no booze, halal catering and that it was an invite-only event.

Clarifying that the venue was chosen for practical purposes, and not marketing brilliance, her team wrote: “The lighting with neon effects, sound system, LED displays, lightboxes, as well as technical support were among the facilities offered by the event space, all of which are necessary and parallel to the theme of the event itself.”

The backlash was swift, with one professor going as far as to write a lengthy Facebook post reminding her followers that the hijab was not merely fashion, but carried with it greater weight in how one conducts themselves.

Others didn’t seem to see what the issue was – it was just a dry launch, Neelofa wanted lasers for her “theme” and the hijabs sold out within 24hours.

Better start thinking of universally appreciated themes for the next one, guys.
