Red Shirt rally organisers now welcome non-Malays to join in

The organisers of next week’s “red shirt” rally in KL are now saying non-Malays are welcome to participate in the gathering.

Jamal Md Yunus, who has been speaking on behalf of the coalition of Malay NGOs organising the Rally for Malay Dignity, said that the organisers were open to non-Malay participation, as long as they are in agreement with the rally’s objectives, which are to unite the Malaysian Malay community and to safeguard the Constitution.

“Our government was democratically elected by the public in the last election but Bersih has the intention of bringing it down. Just look at the banners they brought to the rally, they are masking their fight with ‘clean and fair elections’ when in truth, they just want to topple the government.

“We are participating in this rally because we want to stand by the government that we chose.

“If we topple the government, all of our investors will run away,” Jamal said in front of the Dang Wangi district police headquarters today.

Jamal had been summoned to give a statement to the police on the rally, which has been barred by the PDRM.

He added that in preparation for the rally to be held on Malaysia Day, 200,000 red T-shirts have been printed.

“We will be distributing the t-shirts to 30,000 NGO members and the rest will be given to the rally supporters,” he said, as quoted by The Star Online‘s Nadirah H Rodzi.

On September 16, supporters are expected to gather at various checkpoints around Bukit Bintang at 11am before marching to Padang Merbok at 3pm.

The “red shirt” rally is in direct response to what its ogranisers say was a “DAP Chinese” attempt to warp public opinion against the administration of Prime Minister Najib Razak through the #BERSIH4 rally on August 29 and 30.
