Malay rights activists and one of the public faces of the “red shirt” movement Jamal Md Yunos has been barred from entering Sarawak, in the run-up to the state election there.
Jamal, who is also Sungai Besar UMNO division chief, said he was stopped by Immigration Department officials at Kuching International Airport when he arrived at 11.30am on Thursday.
He was also served a notice that listed his name among those deemed not welcome to Sarawak by Immigration officers. The list also included names of Federal Opposition politicians who have been barred from entering the state.
Jamal told mStar that he was given no specific reason for the state government’s refusal to allow his entry into Sarawak.
Sarawak will be having its state elections on May 7.
