Former national shuttler Razif Sidek has reportedly apologised to badminton world No 1 Lee Chong Wei for accusing the latter of having taken banned substances for a long time.
The Rakyat Post reports Razif’s apology in which he ‘unreservedly and wholeheartedly’ apologised to Lee, who had recently failed a doping test at the World Championships in Copenhagen.
Razif, 52, best known for being one half of the ace 80s doubles team with his brother Jalani, issued the apology and retraction in a Malay and Chinese daily, the portal reports.
In it, Razif admitted that his statements — alleging that Lee was a long-time user and that the Badminton Association Malaysia (BAM) had known about it all along — were false and baseless.

“I unreservedly and wholeheartedly apologise to Lee for any damage, distress and embarrassment caused to him by my statements which have impugned his integrity and honesty. I undertake and state herein that I will not make any further statements or allegations against Lee that are baseless and malicious”.
Earlier this month, Lee had sent a legal notice to Razif and a Malay daily over the allegations made. He told The Star Online: “The allegations are not true. Just because I have a doping case now, you can’t simply say anything. Does he have any proof to justify his claims?”
