As KLites were heading back to work after the brief Deepavali respite this morning, a RapidKL bus burst into flames sending commuters scrambling for safety.
The incident, which happened at around 7.30am at Jalan Tropicana Selatan, Petaling Jaya, saw the bus stalling before bursting into flames.
The driver of the bus and all 20 passengers on board at the time of the fire exited the vehicle unharmed.
“The fire started in the engine compartment before spreading to the other parts of the vehicle and it was brought under control 20 minutes later,” Damansara Fire and Rescue Department operations head Mustada Silong told Bernama.
When contacted, a representative of RapidKL’s managing firm Prasarana Malaysia Bhd said its internal investigations indicate the fire could have been caused by a short circuit in the engine.
