Rapid KL has clarified that the escalator is no longer in use, and investigators are looking into what caused the unfortunate accident.
Many social media commentators have left word that the station has seen better days, and has facilities that are in need of repairs.
Others have asked the public transportation management company to take heed of other stations in disrepair, with one man claiming the escalators at the city-center Dang Wangi station have been out of use for a year.
