Twenty-one items have been added to the government’s Hari Raya Price Control scheme, ensuring that families will not get priced out of buying chicken and beef over the holiday season.
The New Straits Times cites the following ingredients as being price fixed from June 17 to June 30: live chickens, standard (normal-sized) chickens, super (large-sized) chickens, Grade A, B and C eggs, local beef, imported beef, imported buffalo meat, red chillies, tomatoes, imported round cabbage, whole coconut, grated coconut, shallots, imported onion, garlic, imported potatoes, mackerel, sardine and albacore tuna.
Market sellers, don’t try to play the public on shallots: we know our rights to a flavorful, inexpensive sambal.
The scheme was introduced in 2011 to combat profiteering by market traders. Last year 6 individuals were ticketed by police. Although fines can reach RM100,000 (US$25,000), the highest fine issued was RM900 (US$210).
See some coconut being advertised at an extortionate price? Say something, but remember snitches get stitches, to make those cheap dishes (jk, please report by calling 03-8000 8000 or through e-aduan@kpdnkk.gov.my.)
