Technically, he owns the entire state, so people should probably listen to him on this one.
Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail has put out a decree stating that his state should be referred to as simply Perlis, minus the superlative ‘Indera Kayangan’ or the ‘Darul’ attached to other states with a monarch in Malaysia.
Raja Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said the state constitutioned signed into law by his father, the late Tuanku Syed Putra Syed Hassan, stated Perlis as the name of the state, with no additions.
“Therefore, I hope for the name to remain as Perlis, without the addition of Indera Kayangan which is related to deities, or any ‘Darul’,” he said yesterday in Kangar, as quoted by The Star Online.
He added that the decision on the state’s official (and final) name was reached after a meeting with the Perlis Islamic Religious Council (MAIP) in the 1980s, when he was its president.
“The meeting’s decision was presented to my father, and he also wished for the name Perlis not to have any addition to it,” His Royal Highness said.
We guess the only superlatives you should be adding to anything Perlis-related need to go to the state’s delicoius harumanis mangoes, then.
