The Regent of Perak, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah, was proclaimed the new Sultan of Perak at a ceremony yesterday in Kuala Kangsar’s Istana Iskandariah.
The appointment and proclamation of the new sultan was made in the Balairong Sri (throne room) of the palace at 3.15pm, fz.com reports.
Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja Gen (Rtd) Tan Sri Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin began the ceremony by reading out the proclamation and announcing the new sultan as Sultan Dr Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.
Sultan Nazrin proceeded to take the royal oath and signed the document of oath. This was followed by declarations of “Daulat Tuanku” by all present.
The Mufti of Perak, Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria, led the Muslims present in the ‘doa selamat’.
Sultan Nazrin then placed his hands on the casket of his father, the late Sultan Azlan Shah and kissed the casket to signal that the funeral ceremony could proceed.
The proclamation of Raja Nazrin as the new Sultan was consented by the Dewan Negara Perak, which met on Wednesday following the passing of Sultan Azlan Shah at 1.30pm.
