Rahman Dahlan: Red Shirt rally was dirty, but unlike Bersih, there was no urine smell

Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Abdul Rahman Dahlan conceded that yesterday’s Red Shirt rally in Kuala Lumpur was a dirtier affair than #BERSIH4 – to which he insisted a RM65,000 “cleanup bill” be issued – but countered that at least the Gathering for Malay Dignity did not leave a “bad smell of urine” in its wake.

Tweeting from his personal account, Rahman implied the #BERSIH4 rally on August 29 and 30 was awash in human bodily waste:

However, he did concede that the red shirts’ rally left trash in its wake, and said that Alam Flora would issue a cleanup bill amounting to RM38,000 to the rally’s organisers:

The amount calculated for the cleanup will likely raise questions, as images from yesterday’s rally showed a significantly larger amount of garbage on the streets left in the wake of the red shirts’ protests than what was seen after the #BERSIH4 rally.

KL Mayor Mohd Amin Nordin confirmed that DBKL would send a cleanup bill to the rally’s organisers within a week.

“There was no damage to any infrastructure or fixtures on the streets.

“Alam Flora will make an estimate of the cost of cleaning in the coming week,” he said, as quoted by Noraizura Ahmad of The Rakyat Post
