Pudu wet market raided; DBKL seizes your favourite fresh produce

Morning fresh shopping was disrupted this morning as officers from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) descended on the Pudu wet market and performed an impromptu raid on vendors.

Part of DBKL’s Ops Tegas series of checks on retailers, the raid uncovered numerous cases of undocumented foreign workers manning the stalls and unlicensed vendors operating on the premises. It was conducted by a total of 138 officials from the DBKL, the PDRM, the National Registration Department (JPN) and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Tanda Usoh, deuty chief enforcer of DBKL’s Enforcement Department told Sinar Harian that nine seizures were carried out over the course of the one-hour raid.

“Among the items confiscated were fresh goods such as vegetables, fish, and retail equipment, due to a lack of commercial licenses and premises being operated by undocumented workers,” he said.

“Three compound notices were served by the Management and Licensing Department of DBKL to vendors who were found to have violated the terms of their licenses.”

A total of 19 stalls were examined.

Four undocumented foreign workers were arrested and transferred for further action by the Immigration Department.
