Local carmaker Proton has officially launched the new Perdana at a ceremony at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre on Tuesday.
The launch marks Proton’s re-entry into the D-segment market, currently dominated by the likes of the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and the Mazda 6.
The new Perdana comes in two variants; the 2.0-litre and the 2.4 litre. The Perdana 2.0 comes with a four-cylinder 16-valve SOHC engine producing 154 horsepower and 189Nm torque, while the Perdana 2.4 comes with a four-cylinder 16-valve DOHC engine producing 178 horsepower and 222Nm torque.
The price starts from RM113,888 for the Perdana 2.0, and RM138,888 for the Perdana 2.4.
Both variants come in six colours – Sterling Silver, Ruby Red, Cotton White, Graphite Grey, Midnight Black and Citrine Gold.
According to Proton chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, the company has reportedly received 900 bookings for the new model so far.
“We expect to sell around 3,000 cars by end of 2016,” he was quoted by The Star Online as saying at the launch event.
