Dr Kamaral Yusoff, Universiti Utara Malaysia academic, political science PhD, Hannah Yeoh foe, and recent discovered of the power of Facebook, has a new cause. He’s taken to the share function, and called on his followers to join the call to de-resgister opposition party DAP from the Registrar of Societies (ROS). It’s not original, but gosh darn it, it’s mighty ambitious.
In a post that he shared this morning with his 1,000 followers, he called for more academics especially, to join him in the fight to de-legitimize DAP, and provided a show-case letter to defend his case.
“The main reason behind the memorandum is to question why many of DAP’s activities are against Islam’s position as the religion of Malaysia and the position of Malays and Bumiputeras,” he wrote in his post.
Coming from the man who last week was so moved by the “many stories from the Bible,” in Selangor Speaker Hannah Yeoh’s book, Becoming Hannah, that he filed a report against the prose, this move comes as no surprise.
Kamarul assures his followers that there are two laws that can be used against the DAP. One that protect the sanctity of Islam and the Bumiputera status, Section 2A(1) of the societies act, and another in Section 13 (1) (c) that protects the peace and harmony of the Federation.
He states that while a hundred local academics, including eighteen professors, and twenty-four emeritus professors, have agreed to the memorandum in a personal capacity, the move has not been endorsed officially by any institution.
