When you’re about to troll the country’s Prime Minister on Twitter, you better come ready, sharp, and take into consideration all possible outcomes and responses.
Chapter 1 of the Internet Shader’s Handbook (not a thing, YET): Make sure that who you’re shading can’t throw that tweet back at you.
Social media user @HasrulRizwan used a photo of a Barisan Nasional campaign poster for the upcoming election that had been decorated with opposition party flags, and commented that someone should get a prize for “best flag placing.”

Not bad.
Who would have thought in the late evening hours of last night, the cheeky comment would come to the attention of the picture’s subject, none other than Prime Minister Najib Razak himself.

Starting the tweet off using the laughing emoji, he wrote: “In war, the flag of the enemy in your hand means they have lost.”
Ooo… crunch. Points to you, Prime Minister.
Always start some shade off by making sure everyone knows you’re not taking it too seriously (the laughing emoji), then drop some real truths on them. Extra points for using historical references – everyone assumes you’re smart, and cooler than using a pun (Dad-joke territory).
We here at Coconuts KL continue to look forward to more #GE14 shade in the weeks to come.
