Pregnant woman dies en route to hospital to deliver baby

Tragedy struck a Kedah woman on Sunday night, after she was killed en route to the hospital to deliver her baby in car with other family members.

Both she and her brother-in-law, who was driving the 31-year-old to hospital, were killed at an intersection near Kulim, after their vehicle was hit at approximately 6:30am that morning. Serious injuries to their heads and limbs were reported.

Police report that the other driver, a 37-year-old woman, struck the car on its front right side, though she was only slightly hurt in the accident.

The pregnant victim’s three-year-old son was also in the car with her when it was struck, and he sustained serious injuries. Other passengers in the car received less serious abrasions.

Officials believe that one of the vehicles failed to stop at the intersection, although they have yet to comment as to which driver bore the onus of not having heeded to the traffic signal.
