A powerful blast rocked a picturesque Port Dickson hotel at 4:15am today, causing the wall of a sixth-floor room to collapse.
The hotel’s security guard told Harian Metro that he heard the screams of the victims from under the rubble.
A man and woman, both in their 50s, staying in a duplex room, were injured in the explosion, while their 27-year-old daughter who was staying with them, was uninjured.
The guard said that at the time of the blast, it was still dark, and they could do little to help the victims, who were under heavy debris and had sustained injuries to their heads and lower body.
“We could not do anything but wait for the firemen to arrive,” he said.
The victims are being treated at Port Dickson Hospital
Negeri Sembilan Fire and Rescue report that initial investigations point to a faulty water heater causing the explosion. Investigations are still ongoing, and the building has been evacuated by officials while the ascertain the source of the blast.
Fire and Rescue officials add that the couple are lucky to be alive after the bulk of the roof collapse narrowly missed them.
