Popular actress defends tweet explaining she was being sarcastic and knows how to read

Popular local actress Fathia Latiff has had to defend a recent tweet she made regarding a quote from Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

Her response to his prediction that Malaysia would be a cashless society by 2050 by asking whether we were reverting to the “stone age and barter systems of televisions for bicycles” was apparently HILARIOUS. We just didn’t get the joke. Instead, a slew of online bashing ensued, with some calling her a bimbo, and others referring to her “a blonde” (offensive to blondes, guys).

However, she stood her ground and responded to the comments by saying “I am not stupid,” she said. “I understand the headline. I had tweeted in a sarcastic tone.”

Lovers of irony take note: the time between the Neolithic Stone Age, and the discovery of the basic metals needed to make even just a bicycle is literally millions and millions of years. Give the Bronze Age some credit where credit is due.

She added that the word “cashless” could be interpreted in different ways, and she understood the difference.

While “cashless” does indeed have varied usages, the term “cashless society” that was used by Khairy in the article, generally, has one universal accepted meaning. The kind where in lieu of physical cash for transactions, another system is used.

“A” for effort, but unfortunately when you need to explain a joke – it’s probably not that funny to begin with.

However, even her response of “sarcasm lol” was widely panned, with equally vicious tweets directed at her and explanation.

No stranger to controversy, Fathia had just last month found herself in hot water again with some netizens, after a video clip of her allegedly “sexy dancing” outraged some of their more conservative sensibilities. At the time, she told New Straits Times that she just wanted “to lay low for now.”

We’re not your PR agency but a tip from us, no charge, about laying low – you may want to stop tweeting.
